Men's Table launches in Kalgoorlie-Boulder to support mental health

A grassroots initiative aimed at enhancing men’s mental wellbeing will launch in Kalgoorlie-Boulder next month. The program, known as The Men’s Table, provides a platform for local men to connect, share experiences, and support each other over a monthly dinner.

David Kernohan, the regional host for The Men’s Table, explained that the initiative is designed to foster open discussions among men in a safe, confidential environment. “Often, conversations between men remain superficial, focusing on topics like work, sports, or the weather,” Kernohan noted. “However, many men are seeking deeper connections and discussions about their lives.”

The Men’s Table aims to create an atmosphere where men can express their feelings and challenges without the fear of being judged or offered unsolicited advice. One member described the group as the only space where he could speak candidly and feel truly listened to. “That kind of environment is rare and incredibly valuable,” he said.

Each Men’s Table gathering occurs monthly, with a consistent group of men committing to participate at least nine times a year. The meetings are free to join, with participants responsible for their meal costs. This structure encourages regular attendance and fosters stronger relationships among members.

For those interested in joining or learning more about The Men’s Table, they can contact David Kernohan at 0459 852 342 or via email at david.kernohan@themenstable.org. This initiative represents a proactive approach to addressing men’s mental health in the community, encouraging meaningful conversations and connections.
