Upcoming Railway Exam Raises Mental Health Concerns Among Candidates

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has announced that the first stage of the Computer Based Test (CBT 1) for the RRB NTPC 2025 will occur from June 5 to June 23, 2025. This announcement raises important considerations regarding the mental health of candidates preparing for the exam.

The CBT 1 will last 90 minutes and consists of 100 questions. Candidates will face a mix of subjects, including 40 questions on General Awareness, 30 on Mathematics, and 30 on General Intelligence and Reasoning. Each correct answer is worth one mark, but candidates should be aware of the negative marking system: for each incorrect response, one-third of a mark will be deducted. This format can contribute to test anxiety, a common concern among students facing high-stakes exams.

The RRB aims to fill 8,113 graduate-level vacancies, including roles such as Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor, Station Master, and Junior Account Assistant cum Typist. Given the competitive nature of the recruitment process, candidates might experience heightened stress and anxiety as they prepare for the exam.

Experts suggest that managing stress and maintaining mental health during exam preparation is essential. As the exam date approaches, candidates will receive information about their exam city and date approximately 10 days prior to the test, helping them to plan accordingly. E-call letters will be available for download four days before the scheduled exam date. This advance notice may help to alleviate some anxiety by allowing candidates to organize their travel and prepare mentally.

The recruitment process will include several stages: the first stage CBT, followed by a second stage CBT, and either a Typing Skill Test or a Computer Based Aptitude Test, depending on the position. After these assessments, candidates will undergo Document Verification and a Medical Examination. Selection is based solely on merit, which may add another layer of pressure for candidates striving to perform well.
