New York Farm Bureau offers mental health resources for farmers

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – During Mental Health Awareness Month in May, the New York Farm Bureau has initiated a campaign to highlight mental health resources available for farmers and their families.

Farming can be a highly stressful occupation due to factors such as unpredictable weather, crop-damaging pests, equipment failures, and accidents. Additionally, financial pressures can compound these stressors, making it difficult for farmers to cope. David Fisher, President of the New York Farm Bureau, emphasizes the importance of recognizing these challenges and seeking help when needed.

The Farm Bureau encourages farmers experiencing mental health issues to reach out for support. A dedicated hotline, 1-800-547-3276, connects individuals with mental health counselors and financial advisors who are equipped to assist them.

This initiative aims to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health in the agricultural community, encouraging farmers to prioritize their mental well-being amidst the demands of their profession.
