Una nueva revisión sistemática evalúa los aumentos del tratamiento del TEPT

A recent protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis targets the augmentation of trauma-focused psychotherapy (TFP) for individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Despite TFP being the leading treatment option for PTSD, many patients do not achieve adequate symptom relief, leading to a need for enhanced therapeutic strategies.

Current research indicates that while TFP, which includes methods like trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, is effective for many, approximately 20% of patients discontinue treatment. This high dropout rate raises concerns about treatment efficacy and the need for additional support.

The systematic review aims to assess the effectiveness of non-pharmacological augmentation strategies that can be implemented alongside standard TFP. Researchers will analyze randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate how these strategies impact symptom severity, response rates, and dropout rates among patients. The review will cover multiple databases including PubMed and Embase, ensuring a thorough search without language or date restrictions.

Three primary outcomes will be measured: changes in PTSD symptom severity, overall response rates, and dropout rates from treatment. The review will also explore potential moderators affecting treatment outcomes, such as demographic factors and the nature of trauma experienced by patients.

Initial findings suggest that non-pharmacological interventions may address aspects of PTSD treatment that TFP alone does not, such as emotional regulation and stress management techniques. The systematic review will provide concrete evidence on whether these augmentation strategies can lead to improved patient outcomes.

As PTSD affects a significant portion of the population, with estimates suggesting that 4% to 19% of individuals who experience trauma develop the disorder, this research addresses a critical gap in mental health treatment. By identifying effective augmentation strategies, the study aims to reduce the burden of PTSD on both individuals and society at large.

This meta-analysis will follow established guidelines for systematic reviews and is registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. The findings are expected to inform practitioners and policymakers on best practices for treating PTSD, potentially leading to more tailored and effective therapeutic approaches.
