UB Mini Medical School session targets youth mental health issues

The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences will host a Mini Medical School session focusing on the mental health challenges faced by young people. Scheduled for May 13 from 6-8 p.m., the event is free and open to the public to promote awareness during Mental Health Awareness Month.

This session will feature two key presentations. Michael S. Andragna, an assistant professor of psychiatry, will discuss “The Data of Dogma of Distressed Youth: Putting a Psychiatric Crisis in Context.” He will analyze data from the youth risk behavior survey, highlighting trends in mental illness among youth and detailing how mental health systems are adapting to these changes.

Jamal B. Williams, also an assistant professor of psychiatry, will present on “Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Research Updates.” His talk will cover the latest findings in ADHD research, providing attendees with current information on diagnosis and treatment.

Participants can attend the event in person at Dozoretz Auditorium, located at 955 Main St., Buffalo, or join virtually. Registration is required through an online form.

Since its inception in 1997, the Mini Medical School program has engaged Western New Yorkers with medical education on various health topics, aiming to reach a broad audience, including patients, students, and healthcare professionals. This upcoming session is an opportunity to learn about pressing mental health issues that affect youth today.
