Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk for Mental Health Set for May 10

The Eighth Annual Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk for Mental Health is scheduled for May 10th at 9:30 AM at the University of Michigan Dearborn campus. This event marks the second stop in a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting awareness around mental health and the benefits of physical activity.

Dr. Adel Korkor, a physician and mental health advocate, founded the Five Fifty Fifty series, which consists of 50 5K events across all 50 states. Since its inception in 2018, over 6,500 participants have engaged in these runs, sharing personal stories about how physical exercise has aided their mental health challenges.

Dr. Korkor expressed enthusiasm for bringing the event to Dearborn, citing the community’s commitment to resilience and wellness. He hopes for strong local participation to support mental health initiatives.

Funds raised during the run will support mental health awareness campaigns, advocacy for affordable mental health care, and youth wellness programs. Additionally, the event aims to promote research into the connections between physical activity, emotional well-being, and mental health.
