Rochester offers resources for Mental Health Awareness Month

May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to emphasize the importance of mental health and explore available resources. The City of Rochester prioritizes the mental well-being of its employees and their families, providing various support options to help individuals thrive. Here are three ways to engage with mental health resources this month:

1. **Download the Bree Health App**: The Bree Health App is available for free to all City of Rochester employees and their families. This app offers confidential access to Certified Life Coaching and counseling services addressing stress, anxiety, relationships, and career development. To use the app, download it from your device’s app store and enter the City of Rochester access code 8796. The app is compatible with iPhones, Android devices, and web browsers.

2. **Participate in a “Take Five” Event**: Break up your work routine with a short mental health intermission. The DHRM team hosts “Take Five” events on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the City Hall Atrium. These events feature games, puzzles, and coloring—activities designed to promote mental well-being. This month, events are scheduled for May 7 and May 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

3. **Explore MVP Healthcare Offerings**: Collaborating with MVP Healthcare, the City of Rochester provides additional mental health resources. Employees are invited to visit the MVP Health Care Onsite Support table, where Melissa Miller, the Health Promotion Program Manager, will be present to answer questions about available services. These sessions occur on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month in the City Hall Cafeteria, with this month’s dates being May 14 and May 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Additionally, the MVP Mind Body Challenge runs from May 19 to June 15. This initiative encourages participants to maintain physical activity and practice guided meditation for overall wellness. To join, sign up for a Wellable account, which provides tools to track progress and celebrate achievements.

By taking advantage of these resources, employees can actively invest in their mental health and well-being during Mental Health Awareness Month.
