Primary school children in East Suffolk will soon receive a new resource aimed at supporting their mental health. Local parent and author Jen Rose has developed a coloring journal titled ‘Me (and My Mind),’ which is funded by East Suffolk Council’s Community Partnership Board. This initiative will provide every Year 6 student in East Suffolk with a copy of the journal, designed to help them understand and manage their mental wellbeing during a critical transitional phase in their lives.
The ‘Me (and My Mind)’ journal is an interactive coloring book that includes a set of coloring pencils for each student. It offers a creative outlet for children to explore their identities, recognize their emotions, and learn coping strategies for when they feel overwhelmed or upset. This resource is intended to be used in conjunction with Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PHSE) education lessons in schools. Students can engage with the material individually, in small groups, or in class settings, and they are encouraged to share their experiences with parents, carers, and family members at home.
Councillor Sarah Whitelock, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for Communities, Culture, Leisure and Tourism, emphasized the importance of this project. She stated, “The Community Partnership Board collaborates with various sectors to address local challenges. As mental health issues among young people increase, this initiative provides essential knowledge and skills for maintaining mental wellbeing.”
This project aligns with East Suffolk Council’s ongoing efforts to support young people’s mental health and build resilient communities. By equipping students with tools to manage their mental health, the initiative aims to foster a supportive environment where children can thrive.
