UAA Center for Human Development hosts School Health ECHO

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Center for Human Development, in collaboration with the State of Alaska Department of Health and the Department of Education & Early Development, is hosting a series of videos aimed at educators. This initiative, known as School Health ECHO, features Jessica Setnick as a guest speaker. The program focuses on improving mental health awareness and education among school staff, providing them with practical strategies to support student wellbeing.

Educators play a pivotal role in identifying and addressing mental health issues in students. Through these videos, they will gain access to valuable training that can lead to better outcomes for students facing mental health challenges. Setnick’s expertise in the field will provide educators with tools to recognize signs of distress and implement effective interventions in the classroom.

This program is designed not only to educate teachers about mental health but also to foster a supportive environment where students feel safe to express their emotional needs. The partnership between state health and education departments emphasizes the importance of a unified approach to student mental health, ensuring that educators are equipped with the knowledge necessary to respond to the diverse challenges students face.

By participating in School Health ECHO, educators can enhance their skills and become advocates for mental health in their schools. This initiative represents a proactive step towards integrating mental health education into the broader educational framework, ultimately aiming to create healthier school environments for all students.
