Oneida County has introduced a new mobile application aimed at improving mental health resources for its residents. County Executive Anthony Picente announced the launch of the OC C.A.R.E.S. app during his State of the County address. The app, which stands for Community Access to Resources, Education, and Services, was made available on May 29 and is designed to connect users with vital mental health and addiction services.
According to Picente, the initiative reflects Oneida County’s commitment to providing accessible mental health and substance use resources. He emphasized the app’s role in promoting innovative approaches to positively impact the community. The OC C.A.R.E.S. app aims to serve as a comprehensive resource center for all mental health-related needs and to convey that the county prioritizes the wellbeing of its residents.
The app features several key functionalities, including: – **Crisis Services**: Immediate access to support during emergencies. – **Health and Wellness Resources**: Information on maintaining overall mental and physical health. – **Suicide Prevention**: Resources and hotlines for individuals in crisis. – **Naloxone and Harm Reduction**: Information on overdose prevention and treatment options. – **Provider Directory**: A comprehensive list of mental health service providers and their specialties. – **Mental Health Strategies**: Techniques and tips for managing mental health. – **Safety Plans**: Tools for individuals to create personalized safety plans. – **Self-Screeners**: Assessments for users to evaluate their mental health status. – **Career-Specific Support**: Resources tailored to various professions. – **Interactive Maps**: Directions to nearby mental health resources. – **Push Notifications**: Updates on events and services available in the community.
The OC C.A.R.E.S. app was developed alongside the Oneida County System of Care Resource Guide for 2025, focusing on improving the lives of individuals experiencing crises. Ashlee Thompson, the Commissioner of Mental Health and Director of Community Services, noted that the app consolidates a wealth of information and creates a helpful directory for residents. She assured that the Department of Mental Health will regularly update the app to maintain accurate information and service availability.
The app is free to download on both the App Store and Google Play. Residents interested in accessing these resources can search for ‘OC C.A.R.E.S’ in their respective app stores. This initiative marks a proactive step by Oneida County to address the growing need for accessible mental health services and to support the community’s mental wellness.
